Walking the dog...

I am following Wyatt and feel his disappointment in gaining pounds after working forty of them off, but he is aware of it and will address the issue. So as I commented to him, I am a lost cause and want to blame everything and one except me, but I am so much smarter than that and after weighing this morning I go and jog, a long one for an hour and fifteen minutes. As I run, I think and look for money (found three bright pennies and rescued them). I notice a long legged red head and she is walking with a chubby fella that is walking their (?) Chow Chow, whose red hair almost matches the lanky lady's. But as I think, people with dogs get out once a day to walk the dog, twice if the dog and they are really lucky and the dog thrives on the walk, the new stuff to sniff and the joy of the pack prowl. So I wonder why the rest of modern America isn't out walking or jogging their heart - it needs the same care and concern one gives the favorite pet, exercise, time together and adventures in what is on the way, the smells of bakeries and pretty women and the smiles of children - it all does better for the heart than the constant pounding while piled on the recliner in front of the TV with remote in hand... take the heart out for a walk or a jog, you both deserve it.

Starting my life again, today, repeat the best...

Only have one life, and some things work and others don't. I weigh 206.5 pounds today, blood pressure is 112/78 with a heart rate of 25 bpm, not believing that I do it again and get 108/71 with a heart rate of 34 bpm. I give up do devotions, mindlessly wander my favorite blogs which I checked about eight hours earlier, not much has changed, time to load - I would do better with feeds, or not checking. Kim has lots of his pictures of their trip to Germany, so cool, I was there once. My wife wakes and I do my fifty reps while she sips coffee and gets ready to start the day.

When my wife is ready we go to the YMCA, I do twenty-five minutes on rowing 5K, 20 minutes on some strange stepper strider, ten minutes on another and then a couple minutes on a bicycle. Done for today. Back home we get lunch, too much rice, but everything else is perfect. I go off to shoot, and lucky I brought a box of ammunition, for they had sold all the 9mm before I arrived. So I put up my target on the seven yard line, twenty-one feet and find that my first shot touched the x, and it was down hill from there. Still for forty-two bullets, fired six at a time, one magazine to reload while resting, not too many missed the black. Next time I will just go to the tweny yard pistol line.

Back home after picking up fuel and I cut the grass, my wife washes the cars - she wasn't supposed to do mine, but it was there and she did while I finished the cutting and putting stuff away in the shed.

Saturday calls to me..

I wake early enough, take the medicine and then turn on the computer. I go weigh, 204.5 pounds this morning, blood pressure is 132/72 with a resting heart rate of 44 beat per minute. Off to get some coffee and breakfast and read blogs and write comments and remember that I should be a quiet lurker unless there is something truly worth mentioning. I finally wake my wife so she can prepare herself for the day. We drive off to Fort Lewis, where they had a big bomb scare yesterday, and find out that her records are completely posted and her ID is very current, she will have to get another in five years but then when she turns seventy-five they will give her one without an expiration date. A few more years.

We decide to go to the YMCA, since it is raining, for our workout and walking. I think I should stop at the Triumph dealer and look into getting a sissy bar for the motorcycle. She agrees and we do, lot of lovely machines on the floor and I ask for and get a sissy bar kit, and my wife sees some gloves she would like to wear - she has boots, gloves and a helmet. As I pay for the purchases she quietly asks if they service mounting the sissy bar, just in case I can't do it. They do, but the salesman and I laugh at me not being able to mount this - he doesn't know how bad I can be on mechanical stuff.

At the YMCA I do five thousand on the rowing machine, she walks laps and then we use different machines for different things. Exercise time was fifty-one minutes for me, but forget the zone and calorie burn, I was just moving. I would do some chin ups at home after I mounted the sissy bar and cleaned then greased the chain on the motorcycle. It was still raining, I am hoping for Sunshine tomorrow so I can ride and pose on my fine, improved for female companionship, motorcycle. I won't have any female companion ship, but it is like preparing for rain, it could happen.

Sunday, start of good and for goodness intentions

I weigh 207.5 pounds (same as yesterday) blood pressure is 124/83 and heart rate is 40 bpm. I do too much on the blog, watching the wrong television (no television is the right kind). I have two bacon, egg and green stuff on toast sandwiches with my coffee. I then get dressed and go for the heart jog, gently. I burn 410 calories, 40% from fats, average heart rate was 121 bpm, in Zone 30 minutes 40 seconds, Exercise time 39 minutes. Rapid heart rate during first mile 167 bpm, fluke or real, settled back down when warmed up.

I clean up for church, and then return home after stopping for an American Iron magazine for June, wanted to see what they reported on the Cross Bones from HD. I picked up some food for the pot luck and then choir members and off to spent the afternoon working the lungs and vocal chords for a performance at seven in the evening. It went better than we had practiced, the evening was worthy, small rural churches and small choirs but uplifting. Home to wife and King Sejong.

From Dreams of Greatness I awake

I was in a military dream with large brick barracks complexes, and I had won the Best Soldier/Paratrooper/Sergeant of the Moment, was going to be put on the unit's memorial trophy and was going to give up some of my uniform parts to make it happen. Same Command Sergeant Major McBride in charge of the details, then the alarm went off and I wonder if that means I am going to win the Lotto, have to buy the winning ticket don't I?

I weigh 210.0 pounds, blood pressure is 121/86 with a heart rate of 40 bpm. Take my meds, have devotions and pray for the rest of the world, only the LORD can help, I am reading Isaiah 42.

Motivation, perseverance, denial and deceit...

Long time jogger, starting for building wind for three minute Karate rounds like a boxer, I ran twenty quarter mile laps on the track. At first difficult to stay positive, I found counting up to twenty a real drag, so I started counting down to one and fooled myself into thinking there was a difference. Same distance and the same time, but felt rewarded when each lap slipped away and I had less to go. Still lap running is boring, great for being coached, great for competing but without those two it is just boring. I moved to road work for the change in scenery, the Dogwood Marathon in North Carolina had the most beautiful gardens and homes to pass and lose oneself running through.

I weigh 204.0 pounds today, blood pressure is 107/81 with a heart rate of 43 beats per minute, if one were to believe the machines, they will be consistant and then the being measured is the variation (not the position of the planets, moon or season). Good start for today as I try to regain my fitness and better health.

When asked what made the real difference during these last few years of weight loss and better numbers on the blood pressure I have to answer that my doctor's prescriptions and a book titled Younger Next Year: A Guide to Living Like 50 Until You're 80 and Beyond, by Chris Crowley & Henry S. Lodge, M. D. And I add that what I paid attention to was what the young doctor kept telling me about human males from our evolution on the Savannah tuning our biology to respond to season, nutrition and activity levels. The doctor spoke to what I kind of knew about me, and so I could jump on his program easily. The old guy, that can't keep promises and relationships with women (three marriages?), I discounted except for his enthusiasm and testimony of change.

So I bought a Polar heartrate monitoring unit, with a chest strap to catch my beating breast rhythm. And once you run in the zone for fat burning and heart thumping combined with a little ragged breathing - the pounds of fat melt away. Well, remember not to eat cooked potatoes, white rice and white flour and stay away from refined carbohydrates - sugar, alcohol, and corn syrup... so easy, huh? Well, try shopping in common stores and not buying Chinese. Add a basic fifty repetitions of bent leg sit ups, push ups and squats done daily (if you can find the time - your mind will wiggle out of it if you allow it).

The Sunshine calls to me, for my motorcycling and for my heart rate run - which is only a jog but much better than nothing at all. Average heart rate 118 bpm, time in zone (140 to 110 bpm) 33 minutes 09 seconds, exercise time total 38 minutes 28 seconds. Fat burning 40% of 383 kcal. which doesn't sound like much but everyday and it works it off, remembering that I am building muscle to increase the calorie burn. Or so one says as he lies to himself, at least my mind didn't talk me out of doing. Now to move the chin up bar into place.
