Missing me, I haven't been hard enough...

Started re-reading "Younger Next Year..." before I evolve into the LazyBoy layered in blubber. Sad, so sad, to be sucked into the virtual world on the computer monitor or the other make believe land on your television screen in High Definition, like I needed more reason to wallow in a comfy nest of my own making - ever becoming less than human beings were evolved to become, or very intelligently designed to be... always less if I just don't move enough.

Back in the day (oh, another flash back) when I was running (really running not jogging) and doing marathons for various reasons (almost none of them logical) I told everyone two facts of humanity. The human is designed to jog twenty to twenty-five miles a day, every day of its life, and the pace of the jog is the same as the trot of a dog - before we started fooling with natural selection and producing lap dogs and toys. The second fact was that any healthy human can jog twenty miles - it is always that last 10K (6.2 miles) of a marathon that kills you.

Well, no marathon today - just an hour and six minutes on the road, waving at the heart walker (he wears reflective clothing, too), nodding a greeting to the great-grandfather walking his future to the bus stop - very protectively, good on him! Well, a cuppa coffee, hot shower and out to the real world of libraries inside the cage. Do they have libraries in the zoo for the animals? Nah, unless they have lots of smarter chimps. Next?

Day Two of the Newer me...

Ha, ha, it is really the same guy all over again. But on Monday 29 June, 2009:

Weight 204.6 pounds, Blood Pressure 130/83, resting Heart rate 45 beats per minute. I started with my fifty reps of the basic three exercises, put on my monitor band and went on a longer jog than Sunday's. The watch said 437 calories burned, 45% fat ones, Heart rate 117 average, in Zone for 55m19s, exercised for 1h6m28s. Instead of a couple of gray hounds racing me along a fence (they did two laps and quit bored with my slog) I get a squirrel leaping along beside me getting to his next tree, even he was faster than I. But the day was fine the sweating very good and I came in well. I walked the two miles to the dock through the lush greenery, always good for my mind as well as the legs that had the jog earlier, stretching out the tightened muscles.

I just looked at a picture from 2007, when I could do a good chin up, will have to work for that again.

You never miss me, do you?

Well, I have been gone and busy and making excuses for not doing better in my personal fitness and health. I don't need to go into them, but I had a great vacation in Hawai'i with so little stress that trying to match my grandson's sleep pattern and running long and walking were very healing and my blood pressure came right down and impressed my doctor. My next appointment with him is the 23rd of September at 8:30 AM on the State time. The only change in medication was for the missing Thyroid so that is still being adjusted.

On 28 June 2009, Weight was 207.0 pounds (twenty too many), Blood pressure 160/95 or 140/101, Heart rate resting was 45 or 48 beats per minute. After church, motorcycling and talking health issues with my friends (all two of them) I took time in the beauty of the evening and exercised. Jogging along the road with hand weights, reflector belt and positive attitude for 36minutes and 20seconds, then doing 55 repetitions of the basic three exercises (bent leg sit ups, push ups, and squats), three hangs trying to do chin ups, pull ups and back arches (so weak, Willie!) finishing with ten cat stretches.

I know, very basic and oh so lame, but it was a start and that is the idea, a daily dose of better time spend than what I would do if I just stare at the television or computer screens. I mean, you know that my fingers and forearms are in excellent shape - they move typing this stuff. This is a good start to looking old and never better, living longer in good health is also a goal. Grandchildren really get fun when they hit eight to ten so that is a few more years to hang on.

Notice a month later than last...

I weigh 212 pounds, blood pressure is 177/99 and my heart rate is 43 resting. I jogged and burned 349 calories, 50% fat ones!, average heart rate 113 bpm, in Zone 33m47s, Exercised 38m25s, carrying 3 1/2 pound hand weights.

I have been feeling much better as the old medicines flow out of the body and I heal, continuing walking to the dock and will work on more movement for the best of reasons. God designed me that way...

Well, that movie about Walt Kowalski must have...

woken up the better part of me. I get up after wine and cheese with my wife last evening (listening to music and talking - us?) good sleep. I weigh 210.0 pounds and did have French Toast with real Pennsylvania Maple Syrup. I went to church and was social enough that my friend told me to tell the choir director I wasn't going to sing in the choir anymore. Since someone was wearing my robe I really should tell her, but I haven't sung with the choir since early December. I do need directions for proper social interaction, my mother, my wife and my real friends all tell me when I fall short - and I get more conversations that way.

After coffee after service I went to Range 15 on Fort Lewis to fire pistols, fifty rounds of .45 APC at twenty yards and forty rounds of .22 LR at same distance, target is of the forty-five. Both hands, strong hand alone and weak hand alone, same eyes and Colt Model 70 used for all fifty.

Came back home to go jogging gently along the road, bright yellow hooded sweat shirt, gray wool glove liners, gray sweat pants, and shoes. Carrying 3 1/2 pound hand weights in each hand. 341 calories, 50% fat ones, average Heart rate 113, in Zone 26m20s, exercised 38m52s -- found 4 pennies and 1 nickel. Dinner and then fifty reps of the basic three exercises - bent leg sit up, push up, squats. Life is good, now get going - and the hot water and soap work in our house.

Think I will concentrate on posting on this blog, with some exercised muscles, sweat dripping from my face and the beginning of bad smell - not that I would ever care, I know where the hot shower is with the Irish Spring and Pert with conditioners - like I have enough hair for conditioners? A beautiful girl was running to the bus stop this morning, she is half Asian and that is always exotic to me. Her hair was flowing and I thought that the shampoo folks would want that picture, long glowing and flowing hair - and she runs much faster and happier than I, for I was worn and going to work and she was fresh and going to be with her friends and teachers. May her school years be blest and the best, preparing her for all the rest.

I walk to the dock and I feel fine, Summer is still here.

Walking the dog...

I am following Wyatt and feel his disappointment in gaining pounds after working forty of them off, but he is aware of it and will address the issue. So as I commented to him, I am a lost cause and want to blame everything and one except me, but I am so much smarter than that and after weighing this morning I go and jog, a long one for an hour and fifteen minutes. As I run, I think and look for money (found three bright pennies and rescued them). I notice a long legged red head and she is walking with a chubby fella that is walking their (?) Chow Chow, whose red hair almost matches the lanky lady's. But as I think, people with dogs get out once a day to walk the dog, twice if the dog and they are really lucky and the dog thrives on the walk, the new stuff to sniff and the joy of the pack prowl. So I wonder why the rest of modern America isn't out walking or jogging their heart - it needs the same care and concern one gives the favorite pet, exercise, time together and adventures in what is on the way, the smells of bakeries and pretty women and the smiles of children - it all does better for the heart than the constant pounding while piled on the recliner in front of the TV with remote in hand... take the heart out for a walk or a jog, you both deserve it.

End this August stuff and get on with September!

08/30/08 weigh 206.5 pounds, blood pressure is 131/80 heart rate is 40 bpm. Spend the afternoon at a wedding and reception, lovely bride and party, hulking grooms men, although the groom looked okay.

08/31/08 weigh 206.5 pounds, blood pressure is 160/88, heart rate 44 bpm. Jog for 371 calories, 45% fat ones, Heart rate average is 118 bpm, in Zone 33m27s, Exercised 37m59s, found four pennies when thinking good thoughts about Federal Medical Organization, my Mother and winning the Lottery. 2 1/2 Chin Ups then late for church.

Went to the range after to fire FASTER! one day late and still too slow, but the top two targets are from my 9mm, all on the paper at seven yards (21 feet) and all deadly only the ones on black count five points apiece.

The lower targets are with my Colt Model IV Series 70, Government Model, .45 APC, and you can see I do much better with the single action, although not perfection, I can claim more dead bodies. Sequence was five right target, reload, 5 left target, reload, 5 right target, reload, 5 left target. Higher scoring than the ones I turned in on the 30th, but that is okay, I only have myself to satisfy - no sponsors, accolades nor living enemies that I know about.

I went off to the rifle side of the range, checked my single shot .22 at the fifty yard line - high and centered - so I moved the target to the hundred yard line and I get the black, then I went and fired ten rounds of 30-06 with the Model 70, first time I have loaded five in the magazine, emptied it twice. Is the deer, bear, lion or skulking terrorist dead - yes, but I am not happy, I want tighter groups and that means I need to practice all the stuff I know but have forgotten to practice frequently. I am so not dangerous (enough for me anyway - best get to that practice stuff.

Can we do everything in just one day?

I had plans today to become a better me, so I got up early, took my medicines, weighed and measured, had devotions, breakfast and exercised and jogged and was prepared to get my wife to the YMCA and go shoot my pistol and rifle. A better plan would have been to exercise at the YMCA with my wife, have lunch and then go shoot in the afternoon. I wasn't perfect but I was closer than normal.

Weight 205.0 pounds, blood pressure 130/80 and heart rate was 37 bpm. I did 30 reps of the basic 3 exercises, Jogged for 340 calories, 50% fat, Heart rate average 114 bpm, in Zone 29m42s, Exercised 37m17s.

I ate pho for lunch and beef, peas and some rice for dinner. Strange, I have had two comments left on this blog, and I was only doing this for my record - it is boring.
