Missing me, I haven't been hard enough...

Started re-reading "Younger Next Year..." before I evolve into the LazyBoy layered in blubber. Sad, so sad, to be sucked into the virtual world on the computer monitor or the other make believe land on your television screen in High Definition, like I needed more reason to wallow in a comfy nest of my own making - ever becoming less than human beings were evolved to become, or very intelligently designed to be... always less if I just don't move enough.

Back in the day (oh, another flash back) when I was running (really running not jogging) and doing marathons for various reasons (almost none of them logical) I told everyone two facts of humanity. The human is designed to jog twenty to twenty-five miles a day, every day of its life, and the pace of the jog is the same as the trot of a dog - before we started fooling with natural selection and producing lap dogs and toys. The second fact was that any healthy human can jog twenty miles - it is always that last 10K (6.2 miles) of a marathon that kills you.

Well, no marathon today - just an hour and six minutes on the road, waving at the heart walker (he wears reflective clothing, too), nodding a greeting to the great-grandfather walking his future to the bus stop - very protectively, good on him! Well, a cuppa coffee, hot shower and out to the real world of libraries inside the cage. Do they have libraries in the zoo for the animals? Nah, unless they have lots of smarter chimps. Next?

Great mouse trapper resting athlete....

I got two mice yesterday, one large and one small, the trap is re-set for those that don't understand that cheese is dangerous when one should be outside consuming little natural foods.

I also seemed to fall into a rest day. I got up on time on the clock, but then went back to bed after breakfast for a light nap.

Weight was 205.4 pounds, Blood Pressure was 131/82 and Heart rate 49 beats per minute. Only light exercises: 3 CU hangs, 3 PU hangs, 8 tiny Dips, 20 reps of the 3 exercises, 3 CU hangs, 3 PU hangs, 8 more tiny dips. Then dress and off to the Credit Union and work. Walk down to the dock for my two miles maintenance movement. Hot in my heavier jacket and long sleeve shirt. Notice muscle aches while working, they would complain since they are being worked more than normal as I try to recover my toned hard body (which I only think I had in tenth grade football season once, the abs were awesome!). I napped both ways on the ferry and had chicken and cakes when I got home, with fruit. Too much cake, but I left some. During the cool down of the evening before bed, I worked out with fifteen pound dumb bells enough to move and flex, twists and stretches for more maintenance of muscle.

I am taking blood pressure and cholesterol medication and am sure I get liver malfunction because of it - but my liver is probably in good shape being a mostly non-drinker. But LDL is needed for building and repairing body tissue and suppressing it isn't the smartest thing to do but seems to make my doctor happy. I think the muscle ache is only trying to get rid of the toxins and not having the blood vessels open and working as they would if I trained regularly. Will continue to exercise and get hard on that road work, where more of the conditioning happens, the weights and body resistance exercises are good but limiting in calorie burn. I expect my weight won't drop until about week two of hard long road work and then continue down. Goal is 187 or 186 pounds of lean and mean... well, not too mean.

One of my former inmate workers goes by Flaco, in Spanish 'skinny'.

Well, that movie about Walt Kowalski must have...

woken up the better part of me. I get up after wine and cheese with my wife last evening (listening to music and talking - us?) good sleep. I weigh 210.0 pounds and did have French Toast with real Pennsylvania Maple Syrup. I went to church and was social enough that my friend told me to tell the choir director I wasn't going to sing in the choir anymore. Since someone was wearing my robe I really should tell her, but I haven't sung with the choir since early December. I do need directions for proper social interaction, my mother, my wife and my real friends all tell me when I fall short - and I get more conversations that way.

After coffee after service I went to Range 15 on Fort Lewis to fire pistols, fifty rounds of .45 APC at twenty yards and forty rounds of .22 LR at same distance, target is of the forty-five. Both hands, strong hand alone and weak hand alone, same eyes and Colt Model 70 used for all fifty.

Came back home to go jogging gently along the road, bright yellow hooded sweat shirt, gray wool glove liners, gray sweat pants, and shoes. Carrying 3 1/2 pound hand weights in each hand. 341 calories, 50% fat ones, average Heart rate 113, in Zone 26m20s, exercised 38m52s -- found 4 pennies and 1 nickel. Dinner and then fifty reps of the basic three exercises - bent leg sit up, push up, squats. Life is good, now get going - and the hot water and soap work in our house.

Been busy, fatter and lazier and bellied out...

Don't you hate it when motorcyclists seem to have a big fat spare tire proceeding them on the bike? Well, I do, sigh, will have to work on it.

Most of the week weighed in at around 206.0 pounds, blood pressure around 125/84, heart rate around 44 bpm. Not enough exercising and not working on healthier life style except in my medications, fruit and vegetable smoothies and getting sleep and riding my motorcycle for my mind.

Monday I weigh 203.5 pounds, blood pressure is 124/75, and my heart rate is 45 bpm, and I have written up the weekend and by 6:15 am have forgotten it is Monday and that I need to get ready for the new week and new month tomorrow. No wonder my blood pressure is so good, thank you Lord.

Determined that I need to get to 180 pounds and lose the gut fat - spare tire and love handles - and have room for concealing weapons and being dangerous but meek, I eat breakfast, do three solid chin ups, knock out fifty reps of the basice three exercises and go out for my heart rate jog. I burn 517 calories, 40% of them fat, average heart rate is 123 bpm, in Zone 51 minutes 2 seconds, exercised 53 minutes 2 seconds, found two pennies, waved to one 'fatter than I' heart walker - but folks he was out there and that is half the battle. Now to the work day. My wife brings me pulped fruit iced and juiced, cool and refreshing and we discuss my pictures on the bike and how fat I look... she still loves me, must be for my mind. I go do two and a half more chin ups.

Yesterday, I wasn't hard enough...

Monday and I weighed 207.5 pounds (uhg!) blood pressure was 134/68 and my heart rate was 37 bpm. I went to jog joyfully, 528 calories burned, 5o% of them Fat, average heart rate 116 bpm, in Zone 48 minutes 47 seconds, Exercised 55 minutes 4 seconds. I did my fifty reps of the basic three, went to strain on chin ups, pull ups and mix ups - but straining was all I achieved. I did walk to the dock, still a nice exercise for my mind. In the evening I used the ten pound dumb bells to work a little more while I mostly acted like a fat slug in the recliner. Half a glass of wine and good night!

During the jog I scared a rabbit out, and couldn't catch him I am so old, and I did find a penny. So all is not lost, yet.

TGIF, or any day this good, Thank Him!

Wednesday weight 205.5 pounds, blood pressure 122/83, heart rate 39.
Thursday weight 206.0 pounds, blood pressure 125/83, heart rate 40.
Friday weight 206.0 pounds, blood pressure 123/88, heart rate 59.

Chin ups getting better, time on the computer getting worse, time for road work again, foot feels much better. The daily walk to the dock is fine and although I haven't thought of it as exercise before it must be something, helps maintain my overall fitness and my mind/spirit.

Face one's fears

Early rising, six o'clock and the Sunshine is waiting for lazybones. I weigh 208.0 pounds (blaming my reluctance to run or jog on my foot) my blood pressure is 119/70 (!!!!) with a heart rate of 37 bpm. I sip on my coffee, look at the blogs and decide I have no reason not to go jog. So I put on the heart rate monitor chest strap and get my shoes on, sweat pants and sleeveless yellow shirt. I won't hurt many people's eyes - there really aren't a lot of folks out watching me. Only one jogger who was dashing down the drive, a walker that could have been a lightweight boxer once, and two bicyclists out for their health.

Well, the foot isn't that much pain, but the fear is foolish but constantly trying to build my excuse for not going far enough. Well, I do the longer route, and think I have forgotten how far the distances were - no longer a very familiar distance and friend. I find three pennies and one of them when I was thinking about carrying a pistol today, a sign! Well the numbers are 524 calories, 50% of them FAT ones!, Hr average 117, in Zone 49 minutes 39 seconds, Exercising for 54 minutes and 34 seconds. I worked on what Doubletapper had encouraged me to do - sprint then jog when I couldn't, then sprint again. Now I remember dimly that the purpose of Fartlek was to put play back into tough training for better racing, but going back and forth was refreshing and allowed me to increase stride and pace knowing that I could back off when I became a heart attack waiting to happen. It was a good run work out and the foot feels fine, funny but fine. Look at the lady flying over the bridge, lovely morning.

Posting measurements....

Friday weight 204.5 pounds, blood pressure 146/93, heart rate 56 bpm. Saturday weight of 203.0 pounds and I took my wife to the YMCA for our workouts, 24 minutes rowing 5,000 meters, ten minutes stair stepping, ten minutes elliptical trainer, ten minute on a swing trainer and five minutes on the arm peddler.... whatever that was.

Iron Man was a great movie, I cried again at all the appropriate points of Cinderella Man, the movie and liked the extra information in the book, and the skill of the movie makers to keep the essence of the story. Ate out tonight and will have ice cream during King Sejong's Historic Drama.

Sunday, start of good and for goodness intentions

I weigh 207.5 pounds (same as yesterday) blood pressure is 124/83 and heart rate is 40 bpm. I do too much on the blog, watching the wrong television (no television is the right kind). I have two bacon, egg and green stuff on toast sandwiches with my coffee. I then get dressed and go for the heart jog, gently. I burn 410 calories, 40% from fats, average heart rate was 121 bpm, in Zone 30 minutes 40 seconds, Exercise time 39 minutes. Rapid heart rate during first mile 167 bpm, fluke or real, settled back down when warmed up.

I clean up for church, and then return home after stopping for an American Iron magazine for June, wanted to see what they reported on the Cross Bones from HD. I picked up some food for the pot luck and then choir members and off to spent the afternoon working the lungs and vocal chords for a performance at seven in the evening. It went better than we had practiced, the evening was worthy, small rural churches and small choirs but uplifting. Home to wife and King Sejong.

Patriots' Day, 1775 remembered

The shot heard round the world. And President Clinton orders the attack on the Branch Davidians, to protect the children. No sense of History. I weigh 208.5 pounds, blood pressure is 128/72 and my heart rate is 38 beats per minute. My ankle feels better, my sinus problem remains and SNOW is falling on our home, yard and road - is Al Gore in hiding yet? This will be the hottest Summer on record, just you watch.

My wife cooks me oatmeal with and egg under it, and we decide to visit the YMCA for exercise after answering the telephone and calling my mother in West Virginia. The snow has melted and there are Sun patches in the gray quilted sky. I try walking on the outside edge of my right foot, no pain and I begin to think I will need to see a pediatrist for orthodonic inserts or funny shoes. At the Y I hit the rowing machine, first for five thousand meters then for another two thousand. I wear my heart rate monitor strap, 288 calories and 25% fat, average heart rate 127 bpm, in zone 8 minutes 8 seconds, exercise time is 38 minutes 25 seconds. I think the exercise was confusing my watch - at times I was 143 to 175 bpm and that doesn't sound like me, does it? I went and did eight more minutes on a bicycle machine just for the exercise. Back home for dinner and rest and reading.

You're limping... Yes, and I am OLD...

Yesterday a corrections officer noticed my limp and commented on it. I figure I am lucky, still not having had that first heart attack or stroke - or mine are so minor I wouldn't notice. I was 209.5 pounds in weight, blood pressure 157/89 and a heart rate of 40 bpm. I knocked out my fifty reps of the basic three, did some chin up moves on the bar - couldn't call them chin ups, cause they didn't get that high - but I was hanging and struggling. I went jogging 393 calories burned 45% of the fat, average heart rate was 118, in Zone for 37 minutes and 20 seconds, exercising for 39 minutes and 45 seconds. I went to the Credit Union and then walked to the dock, and to work. I was caught limping, and I like to think I limp because of my motorcycle accident last August (NOT!), the medicines my doctor gives me cause my muscles and bones to fall apart, or that I am old and I am falling apart with or without medication.

Today my wife has had problems sleeping, but I didn't, and I knock out my fifty reps after breakfast gruel, then go and do a real chin up and several well intentioned struggles and hangs for more pressure on those good looking upper body muscles. I do notice that the whole core gets to flex and tense along with the working muscles while hanging. I dress for a jog outside, start and then think it is too cold, windy and my right foot is still foolish from the bicycle riding on Saturday - need to do it more. I return home and get on the treadmill and it doesn't feel any better than the road except for the lack of wind. I stop 42 calories, 50% of them fat, average heart rate 99 bpm, in Zone 3 minutes, 8 seconds, exercised (????) 9 minutes and 15 seconds - will have to work on that later today.

So I forgot to give you my weight 208.0 pounds, blood pressure 132/78 and heart rate of 43 bpm. I took the time not spent on exercise and printed out a long letter of my blogs for the week for my mother and my aunt - adding the extra parade pictures and such - the links don't work with print on paper and some of the writing depends on those links but they will ask if they need to. Off to work and walk to the dock, dropping the mail at the post office. Slow train blocking the track but no problem in the long run. Work well all day come home and go to sleep early after dinner - seems my wife had an opportunity to back her car into a truck = damage to her car slight, she says she really hurt the truck, so that is on her mind and she isn't happy. I laugh at her, because she moved the car because she thought it was in a bad parking space and her break was earlier than normal and she knew something was going to happen and hadn't slept well and I can't make it right immediately - but it will happen.

Wasting away, bigger waist what a waste...

I did my taxes yesterday, and went to the Homeowners Meeting, now I need to work on my betterment. Saturday I weighed 209.5 pounds, blood pressure was 127/88 with a heart rate of 44 bpm, Sunday I weigh in at 211.0 pounds, blood pressure is 138/70 with a heart rate of 46 bpm. Funny that it is easier to type on a blog than it is to exercise immediately. As the clocks wander on the CBS Sunday Morning calls to me, wanting to be artsy and fit.

Plans: exercise, church, pistol, lawn, exercise. Yeah, sure - at least there is no football to view.

Follow thru: Church, cut the front grass, started watching The Godfather and decided I could shoot better than Hollywood, so went and shot sixty-five rounds at my twenty yard target, those short 45's have twists that I need to work on controlling, and my sights are a bit to the left, but the paper target is perforated and not breathing, nor is blood pumping from the torn target... checked my targets then went home and checked my taxes again - adjusted them better and have more coming back.

The tomb is empty, thank God!

Listening to "On the Cross" by Kevin Stone, and it is Resurrection Sunday. I weigh 205.5 pounds, blood pressure is 124/81 and heart rate of 42 bpm. Time to dress and go to church for the Sunrise Service, breakfast and then choir duties and service - hope your day is full.

I notice as I go through my day that I am light headed a bit again, time to cut the blood pressure pills in half again. An old man nods off in the choir loft, and the old man beside him and another man - too bad it isn't behind the congregation instead of in front, the only one in trouble will be the one with the watching wife, and he snored so he is really in trouble.

Frank Frazetta had thyroid problems I can too...

I weigh 207.0 pounds, blood pressure is 130/96 and heart rate is 46 bpm. In Icon Frazetta's thyroid problem and his struggles for eight years were outlined, I figure the doctor and I will do better quicker than his medical support team. My wife is concerned but then she cares and will miss me when I am gone.

When I have an excuse like the poorly performing thyroid, I get to do no exercise, no improvement and have lots of no motivation, and blame it all on the thyroid - no personal responsibility. But I have enough time before I need to shave, shower and dress for getting my medication and going to work - just enough time for a short run along the road, there is a 20K to finish the Resolution Series in Steilacoom tomorrow, so work that boy's body today! Get the gear on and hit the road.

I put my mudders on, since the road is wet, my windshield is iced and there are clouds out there. I am so slow and so old, 409 calories burned, 45% of that could have been fat calories (the calorie doesn't care), average heart rate 119 bpm, in Zone 37 minutes 48 seconds, exercising for 40 minutes 10 seconds. It is Spring and I noticed this white stuff falling from the sky, broken Global Warnings? Found one penny and a scurrying away stray dog, looking so whipped, I prayed for it someone needs to love him.

Don't turn on the computer... the world won't wait

So I woke at 4:15, took my medications, made the coffee, weighed in at 209.0 pounds! Blood pressure is 121/80 and heart rate is 45 bpm. I have devotions and it is 4:40, I go to the family room kitchen and make my gruel and knock out fifty reps of the basic three exercises, eat gruel and drink coffee watching for motorcycling weather. I hit the treadmill for twenty-five minutes doing 2.1 miles, 290 calories, 40% fat burned, average heart rate 127 bpm, in zone for 24 minutes and 28 seconds, exercise time 25 minutes and 11 seconds. Go for more coffee, hot shower, shave and brush teeth. Dress for cold and damp but motorcycling allowed. I walk to the dock and enjoy my day - well, I did blow my stack, but that was good for me, what a fool. Day finished I ride my motorcycle home in the drizzle that turned to rain. Ate a fine homemade chilli and salad dish, more coffee and the world news. Nothing good to know there. I call my mother in the Rehab Center, she is going to bed, can't hear on the telephone and she is sad. Off to turn on the computer, read my favorite writers and artists, leave notes of no consequence. My wife knocks out thirty-five minutes on the treadmill, so I knock out forty with two five pound dumb bells for balance. 2.61 miles, exercised 40 minues, in zone 30 minutes 5 seconds, 393 calories burned, 40% of that fat. Finished I get to sit down and talk to my son somewhere in the Pacific on Skype.com and he gets to rant and plan a return to civilization before he ships to Hawaii. Good to talk to him, the longer we talk the more civil and social we become. Nice way to close a good day. Time for another hot shower and sleep perchance to dream.

Garbage Day, taking out the trash...

For motivation and fitness we watched WWE RAW on the cablevision last night, I still can't believe I am older and so much younger looking (?) than Rick Flair, the Nature Boy. But my wife and I laughed loudly at the pretend punches being thrown (she can really punch and I am always too willing). Ah, well, humor is in the head of the happy. I weigh 206.5 pounds, bp is 149/89 and heart rate is 41 bpm. I write and read about Tam's future broomstick (DR-Z400SM looks likely), something about the Supreme Court's Day today, and then eat gruel, watch the weather and go for my heart's jog.

A little gray sky, misty rain falls, and I jog vigorously but gently, saying hello to another heart walker and pretending the children waiting for school bus pick up aren't going to laugh at my feeble efforts. I stretch the stride a few times and keep the pace and breathing up as I day dream about writing blogs - yeah, right. 677 calories burned, 45% should have come from FAT (1600 calories in one pound of fat), average heart rate 120 bpm, in Zone 1 hour 3 minutes 52 seconds, exercise time total was !:05.23 and I am happy, my wife unlocks and opens the front door for me.

One morning news show has a bit about zoo animals put on a Weight Watchers diet because they can't get the exercise they would in the wild. But looking at human beings most of our health issues with weight are because we aren't hunter/gatherers in the wild anymore with a twenty miles on foot per day looking for food as the natural norm. But we live in modern cages: the car a cage on four wheels, the home a rambler in the neighboorhood development, the job in the cubicle or office without the window - another cage. Don't start thinking about mental health in the cages, they have problems with social issues among the zoo animals, too.
